Tips for Teachers to "Survive" this Holiday Season

This crazy time at the end of the year is known as the holiday season. The combination of colder weather , shorter days, later nights, can cause stress especially for teachers. Here are some tips to get through this busy holiday season.

Take care of yourself

Take it easy on yourself. Be sure to get enough sleep, try to eat balanced meals and stay active, carve out time for self-care, and always, always wash your hands at school. Self care can include; watching a holiday movie, taking a bath, focusing on your physical health, or even baking some delicious holiday cookies. It is easy to get overwhelmed with life at the school, as well as your own personal life. Make sure to find that balance and carve out time for personal priorities.

Be extra patient

The holidays can awaken memories of who can't be there this year, which is one of the reasons why some people might be a little on edge. As a result, be sure to be as patient as possible, and don't be surprised if people seem to struggle. You never know what is going on in someones life so it is always important to be kind and compassionate, especially with your kids in the classroom.

Remember to enjoy and be grateful for these times. The holiday season is meant to bring cheer, fun, and do not get wrapped up with the small details of it all. Focus on yourself, the kids, as well as your loved ones. If it gets overwhelming just take a few deep breaths and take a step back.
