Skate Shop Gives Away Skateboards to Kids Wanting to Learn the Sport
The Propaganda Skateboard and Snowboard Shop in Prince Albert had a giveaway on Saturday where they and RDS Skateboards teamed up to hand out 60 complete skateboards to kids in PA.
Around 100 people lined the parking lot and were eager to get their hands on a brand-new board. All they had to do to earn a skateboard was to simply show up at the shop and they got to pick the board they liked best.
Skate shop owner Adam Balon said the main reason for the giveaway was to help kids learn more about the sport and to give back to the community for all they've done for the shop.
"I want to help get more kids out riding skateboards," he said. "That first opportunity to take it up to the park and learning to skate there or getting their first push down their street. And the nice thing about it is that maybe if they don't pick up skateboarding, a sibling or a friend can pick up skating."
Opened in 2005, Propaganda has served thousands of people and has won provincial and national awards for its service, including being named Central Canada's Snow Sports Retailer of the Year back in 2013.
Balon said that this giveaway was meant to take place a while ago but because of issues with the supplies, they were forced to postpone it until this weekend.
"We've been planning this for the last couple weeks now and we finally got to do it," he said. "We tried earlier this month and on Thanksgiving and it didn't work out so we decided that today's the day."
He went on to thank everyone who came out to the giveaway and to the community for its ongoing support over the years .
