Video: Rachel Carson

Our teen science-loving hostess and illustrator, Chrissy, tells and draws the story of Rachel Carson's life, discoveries and brave fight to preserve the health of our environment against damage from pesticides. Fish Ecologist, Rachel Johnson, takes us to her ""Lab"" on the American River in California and describes how the work of Rachel Carson applies to her work as a fish ecologist with NOAA. Rachel Carson identified the danger of agricultural pesticides to the environment and human life then used her skills as a writer to communicate this and ultimately establish environmental safety policies. Then Rachel Johnson applies Carson's pioneering work and love of nature to her own journey to become an environmental scientist. We meet her in her field work setting on the American River in Northern California and discover how restoration action is applied to restore the salmon spawning habitats affected by the human need for dams.
